Drainage Solutions for Northwest Arkansas Properties

Move water where it belongs — off your property.

Water causes more property damage in Northwest Arkansas than most homeowners realize. It erodes hillsides, saturates soil against foundations, washes out driveways, and turns yards into standing water. By the time you see visible damage, water has usually been working on your property for years.

GNG Underground designs and installs drainage systems for residential properties across NWA. We work with the actual terrain — NWA's rocky limestone substrate, steep slopes, and clay pockets all affect how water moves through your soil. We assess your property's specific conditions and build a system that solves the problem, not just the symptom.

Drainage work coordinates naturally with retaining wall and concrete projects. If you're having a wall built or a driveway poured, it's the right time to address drainage on the same property — we can run drainage system and structural work in sequence so you're not tearing up finished work later.

Our Process

01

Property Walkthrough and Assessment

We walk the property with you, identify where water is entering, where it's pooling, and how it's moving across the terrain. We look at slope, soil type, and existing structures.

02

System Design

We design a drainage solution based on your site conditions — not a one-size-fits-all formula. The right solution for a steep Bella Vista hillside is different from a flat lot in Centerton.

03

Excavation

Trenches are dug to the correct depth and grade using our Kubota equipment. NWA's rocky substrate means this step takes experience — we know what to expect from the soil here.

04

Pipe, Aggregate, and Fabric Installation

Perforated or solid pipe, gravel bed, and filter fabric installed according to the system design. We build drainage that flows for years, not just the first season.

05

Outlet and Discharge Point

Every drainage system needs a proper outlet — where water leaves the pipe and releases safely. We design discharge points to slow water velocity and prevent erosion at the outlet.

06

Backfill and Cleanup

Trenches backfilled, surface restored, property cleaned up. If sod or rock finishing is part of the project, it goes in last.

Why Choose GNG Underground

NWA-Specific Drainage Knowledge

Limestone bedrock, expansive clay, steep slopes — we've worked this terrain for years and know how water behaves in NWA conditions specifically.

Full System Design

We design a complete drainage system for your property, not just a patch for the obvious wet spot. A properly designed system addresses the cause, not just the symptom.

Proper Discharge Point Design

Where water exits the system matters as much as where it enters. We build discharge points that slow water velocity and protect the surrounding soil.

Coordination With Other Work

Drainage work pairs naturally with retaining walls and concrete projects. We sequence work so your drainage is in before other construction disturbs it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need a French drain on my NWA property?

If water pools in your yard after rain, seeps toward your foundation, or causes recurring erosion on a slope, a French drain is likely the right solution. NWA's rocky substrate and slopes make this one of the most common drainage systems we install.

Will a French drain work on my rocky Bella Vista or Bentonville property?

Yes, though rocky soil affects installation depth and placement. NWA's limestone base means water often travels horizontally underground — we design systems specific to your terrain and soil conditions.

Can you bury my gutter downspouts?

Yes. Burying downspout lines underground and routing them to a daylight outlet in the yard is one of the most cost-effective drainage improvements available. It removes concentrated roof runoff from the foundation area permanently.

Do you install dry creek beds in Northwest Arkansas?

Yes. We install dry creek beds as functional drainage channels that also serve as a landscape feature. They're especially popular on NWA hillside properties where a natural Ozark aesthetic fits the setting.

What is a catch basin and do I need one?

A catch basin is a ground-level inlet that collects surface water and routes it underground to a discharge point. If water pools in a low spot in your yard or along the side of your home, a catch basin connected to buried pipe is often the right solution.

Can drainage work fix erosion on my hillside?

Yes. Erosion on slopes is usually caused by concentrated surface water running across unprotected soil. A properly designed drainage system intercepts that water before it causes erosion. Retaining walls, ground cover, and rock can be added as part of the same project.

How long do drainage systems last?

Properly installed drainage systems with filter fabric and clean aggregate can last 20–30+ years. The most common failure points are outlets that weren't properly designed and systems that were installed without filter fabric, which allows soil to clog the pipe over time.

Do you offer free drainage estimates?

Yes — all estimates are free. We walk the property, identify water flow paths and problem areas, and recommend the right solution before giving you a quote.
